FAQs for Google employees

I'm not from the U.S. What do I need to know or have in order to open an account?

You need to complete a Stanford FCU Membership Form online, through the Stanford FCU Mobile App, or by visiting a Stanford FCU branch or MobiCU (our branch on wheels) when it’s onsite at a Google campus. You will also need:

  • An offer letter or recent paystub
  • Your passport and an unexpired U.S. visa

I'm not a U.S. citizen. Do I need a Social Security Number or TIN to set up an account with Stanford FCU?

You do not need a Social Security Number (SSN) to open an account with Stanford FCU! We can open your account before you receive your Social Security Number, within 60 days prior to your start date. Once you receive your SSN, you can sign a W-9 form, and Stanford FCU will update your account record. Stanford FCU does not charge incoming wire fees.

What are the wire transfer fees?

Stanford FCU does not charge an incoming wire fee. Our international outgoing wire fee is $20.00, and our outgoing domestic wire fee is $10.00.

We offer Membership Rewards to reduce or refund these fees–all you need is checking with direct deposit and one more qualifying account. We also offer TranferWise, a faster, cheaper way to send international funds transfers.

Note: The receiving financial institution may charge an incoming wiring fee.

Can I receive a credit card or car loan without any U.S. credit history?

We do not require credit history or a Social Security Number if you work for Google and apply for a Visa Credit Card (earn rewards with a generous limit, no annual fee, no foreign transaction fees, and no cash advance fees).

Credit history is required for an auto loan, and we have low-rate auto loans available. We also have a convenient Auto Buying service to help you find the right car at the right price.
