7 red flags that a call or text is a scam
10/20/2026

Many scams start with a simple text or phone call. Knowing the warning signs can help you protect your personal information and your accounts.

Have you received a text about a package delivery? A phone call claiming there's a problem with your debit card? Or a message asking you to call a number right away?

Watch for these 7 red flags

Be cautious if a message or caller:

  1. Creates a sense of urgency or fear
  2. Asks for personal or account information
  3. Requests passwords or security codes
  4. Asks you to click a link
  5. Wants you to call an unfamiliar number
  6. Claims your account, personal information, or your own well-being is at risk and demands immediate payment
  7. Asks you to purchase gift cards or withdraw cash

How to protect yourself

  • Don't respond to unexpected texts or calls
  • Don't click links from unknown senders
  • Never share passwords, verification codes, or Digital Banking credentials
  • Contact the company directly using a trusted phone number or website
  • When in doubt, hang up and verify

Scammers can make a text message, email, or phone number look and sound legitimate. If something feels off, don't respond. Take a moment to verify first.
