Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver FAQ

Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver FAQ
What is Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver (Auto Rental CDW)?
This is insurance that provides coverage on automobile rentals made with your Visa® card on vehicles rented within the U.S.A. and most foreign countries.
Who is eligible for this insurance benefit?
You, the cardholder. Additional drivers permitted by the rental agreement are also eligible for this covered benefit.
What will be covered?
Physical damage resulting from collision or theft to the auto rental. In addition, administrative fees and/or loss-of-use charges imposed from the rental company, and reasonable towing charges.
Does the benefit have limits of coverage?
Yes. Reimbursement will only cover the auto’s actual cash value. Reimbursement is provided to cover the fees for towing to the nearest qualified repair facility only. Coverage applies to domestic rental periods not exceeding 15 consecutive days and 31 consecutive days for international rentals. Most private passenger autos, minivans, and SUV’s are eligible but some restrictions may apply.
Are there vehicles that are not covered under this benefit?
Yes. Expensive, exotic, and antique, automobiles; certain vans; vehicles that have an open cargo bed; trucks; motorcycles, mopeds, motorbikes; limousines; and recreational vehicles. You should contact your Visa®’s Benefit Administrator for specific vehicles and excluded foreign countries at 800.348.8472. If outside the U.S. call 804.673.1164.
Are there specific examples indicating excluded names and types of vehicles not covered, foreign countries excluded from the Auto Rental CDW, or to confirm the benefit is in effect?
Yes. To obtain complete and detailed information contact the Benefit Administrator at 800.348.8472. If outside the U.S. call 804.673.1164.
What if I have my own personal auto insurance policy?
The benefit through your Visa® card is provided as a supplement to any other insurance or reimbursement source. This coverage applies to damage or theft expenses that are not covered or that exceed the limits of any primary insurance or reimbursement policy owned by the eligible renter, if any. Any claim deductible will be covered.
What if I don’t have my own personal auto insurance policy?
If there is no other insurance or reimbursement source covering damage resulting from collision, or theft to the auto rental then this benefit will cover collision damages or theft to the auto rental up to the limits of coverage described in your Visa® card benefit information. In addition, administrative fees and/or loss-of-use charges imposed from the rental company, and reasonable towing charges.
