Fraud Alert: NCUA the Subject of Phishing

Recently, phishing attempts (email fraud) that appear to be from the credit union industry's regulator, National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), have been sent to the general public . The counterfeit emails ask recipients to click on a link to verify their credit union account registration. The email does not specify any specific credit union. SFCU is posting this information in case any of our members receive the fraudulent message.

If the recipient clicks on the email's link, the browser is directed to a false NCUA website, which prompts the visitor for the name of his/her credit union, the account numbers, passwords, and other personal information.

The real NCUA would never ask any member of any credit union for such personal information. In fact, no affilitiate of SFCU would ever ask for private account information through an email.

If you suspect you've been a victim of Phishing:

If you responded to such an email and provided any confidential account information, please notify us immediately at 650/725-1000. Formal complaints about any fraudulent email that involves a Federal agency can be filed with the Internet Crime Complaint Center.
